How we raise our puppies.

The Eklectic Maltese

Our Maltese are not kennel dogs, but are pets and companions. We hand raise our litter in our home.

To insure puppies reach their maximum potential, we apply widely accepted methods of raising puppies, beginning with
proper prenatal care of the mother to working with each puppy individually to determine its genetic personality traits.

Our puppies are whelped in my bedroom where they spend the first 4 weeks of their lives. Then they graduate to the
family room during the day but are brought back to my room every night for the following month.

At 8 weeks of age, they get their first
full check up and appropriate vaccination.
From this time onward, they remain in the family room with daily trips to the
outdoor pen.

We allow mom to nurse as long as she feels comfortable doing so.
We start supplementing the puppies with mush (Fromm's kibbles soaked in water) when they are approximately 4 or 5
weeks old. As part of their daily  dietary requirements  they get some
EicosaDerm mixed in their food as do all of our
pets.

We gently cuddle each one daily, giving them one on one time, caressing their tiny bodies from the moment they are born
to get them used to the human touch and as part of early socialisation.

Proper daily grooming is a very important factor in maintaining the health and appearance of a Maltese. Starting when
they are but a few days old, we brush them and wipe their eyes and faces regularly. As water staining of the beard and
mustache is a concern, we also train them to use the
water bottle.

Our puppies will not be available to go to their forever homes until they are 12 weeks old and only after they get their
first vaccination booster.

We sell only directly to the puppy’s new owners and prefer to schedule personal interviews, after having read their
answers to our questionnaire, to determine exactly if a Maltese is the right breed for them

A week prior to going to their new homes, our puppies will have their last check up with our vet and will be
micro chipped!

Our puppies are available on a spay/neuter contract only!

Once the puppy is ready to go to his/her new home, I schedule a one to two hour appointment with the buyer to review
grooming procedures, housebreaking, training, etc. and answer any questions the buyer might have.

When a puppy leaves our home, s/he will be as well adjusted as is possible at that age. S/he will be well on their way to
be trained to use a pee-pee pad and water bottle as well  used to going outside to a secure and fully contained doggie run.

We endeavour to assist buyers in any way we can and will be available by telephone to answer any questions.
Our goal is to provide new owners with a puppy who will become a life-long companion just as our Maltese are our
companions.
